He also showed us another paper based designers flickr - Prof. YM Flickr
Richard first started us off by giving us a quick demonstration with how paper can bend and interlock in different ways, which seemed pretty simple. - Until we had to do it, of course. He had a way of making it look easy, never mind being able to cut a straight line without a ruler.
So we started with a few restrictions:
- A5 paper
- Must be able to roll undo and put back to show a flat paper
- Can take away from the paper but cant add to it
- No adhesive
Firstly I started by cutting a few lines like he did, and just twisting the paper and cutting slots to fit it together. I personally found it a little uncomfortable and didn't really know what I was doing so just pursued. However, when I started to take some photos I found I liked the end result, even if I didn't like the paper form I had made.
Here are a few examples of what I was able to do:
I cut diagonal lines into the A5, alternating which end I did it from, and then I twist and curled over itself to form this, which actually turned out to be my favourite;
